Energy storage is rapidly becoming the go-to choice for new capacity on the grid in many markets. Long-duration energy storage can provide firm capacity for many hours or even days, opening up new use cases and value streams not available to shorter duration solutions. Applications including reliable power for data centers, firm power from renewables, peaking capacity, and other use cases are being adopted by utilities using this new technology class. This talk will walk through the primary uses of long-duration energy storage, highlight the basic technology types under development and hitting the market, and review several real-world deployments of new technologies. Justin Raade, Program Manager for Bulk Energy Storage at the Electric Power Research Institute, will explain:

• How it differs from conventional short-duration battery systems
• Which technologies show the most promise
• How storage can support grid capacity, reliability, and resilience
• Where long-duration storage may create new business and project opportunities

Members of the NETA (InterNational Electrical Testing Association) Board of Directors will join us while they are meeting in Dallas. This gives attendees an added opportunity to meet leaders from the electrical testing, maintenance, commissioning, and power-system services industry.

Ron Widup, Dallas Electric Club Program Vice President and a member of the NETA Board, will also be available to answer questions about NETA programs and activities.

Please note that this meeting will take place on Thursday, rather than the Dallas Electric Club’s regular second-Friday meeting date and at a different location.
